Match Play

These events are played on courses across the County, from September 2019 through to the end of August 2020.

Overall, the Order of Merit will produce a winner who has played the most consistent golf over the season. Once the standings have concluded, it will form the qualification process for the President’s Cup, where the top 16 players play off in a Matchplay format over two consecutive days.

Glamorganshire Baffie

The first event in the Calendar is a visit to the Glamorganshire Golf Club. A fantastic layout, with challenges for all players, and a wonderful putting surface. The first chance to gain points to qualify for the President’s Cup before the winter break.

The Duncan Putter

The Duncan Putter is the opening event of the Calendar year but the second to accumulate points on the Order of Merit. Competitors come from our county, across Wales, the UK and from Europe. The Duncan Putter is played across the wonderful Southerndown Golf Club over 72 Holes.

The Trubshaw Cup

The Order of Merit moves on to its third spot and a further event of 72 Holes around the Classic Links of Ashburnham and Tenby. This again is an event that has both County & National players taking part.

The Neath Bell

The 1st of the previous original events of the calendar year within Glamorgan county always provides a strong field of entrants on a golf course that is always in great shape to provide a stern test to the competitors.

Welsh Open Strokeplay

The Championship shall be open to male amateur golfers of all nationalities. It shall be played over 72 holes. 18 holes on day one and day two, the top 45 and ties will play 36 holes on day three.
The Winner shall be the competitor who returns the lowest score over the 72 holes. In the event of a tie, there will be a hole by hole play-off over holes to be decided by the Championship Committee.

A maximum of 156 competitors shall play in the Championship, held at wonderful Southerndown.

W I Tucker Trophy

A further Wales Golf Event held over 72 Holes. This event is played on the superb parkland courses of Whitchurch GC and Newport GC. These courses are always in excellent condition for this event and scoring is sure to be very low if you want to pick up points here.

The Radyr HS Colt Cup

The next event take place in the nation’s capital at Radyr Golf Club. Renowned for its fantastic greens and overall condition the Harry Colt design course is always a favourite with all the entrants.

The County Championship

The Flagship event of the Golfing Calendar in Glamorgan is played on one of our Championship courses, attracting a large field and so carries more Order of Merit points.

Year on year the county championship proves a stern test and who ever walks away with the trophy will have played some excellent golf over 36 holes. This year it will be played at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Course ‘P & K’.

The Valleys Cup

The Valleys Cup is a brand-new event for 2020. The Events the Morlais & Mountains Bowls have been amalgamated into one event with 18 Holes played at each venue on consecutive days. The Prize and OOM points will be awarded for the lowest aggregated score over the 2 days.

Cardiff Feathers

The Order of Merit returns to the Capital City at the Cardiff Golf Club. The Feathers is played around one of the finest courses in Glamorgan. The tree-lined, mature golf course will provide a challenging examination of the players’ skill.

Welsh Amateur Championship

The Championship shall be decided by both stroke play and match play. 18 holes of stroke play on day one and day two followed by match play stages on days three, four and five.

The 32 players returning the lowest gross scores over the 36 holes stroke play stage will qualify for the match play stage of the Championship. Ties in the stroke play qualifying will be decided by a card countback, except for ties for the final qualifying place(s) which will be decided by a hole by hole sudden death play-off; see specific conditions for full details.

The match play stage will be conducted by automatic draw based on the qualifying position of each competitor; 1 will play 32 at the top of the draw and 2 will play 31 in the opposite half of the draw etc.

Each match shall consist of one round of 18 holes, except that the final will be played over 36 holes. In the event of a match being all square after 18 holes, or 36 in respect of the final, competitors shall continue to play until one shall gain a hole, then the match shall be considered won. A maximum of 144 competitors shall play in the Championship, held at Newport Golf Club in 2020.

Enjoy the Courses and Competition, but most importantly enjoy the Golf.
