Glamorgan Retain Title With Close Win Over Flintshire

Borth & Ynyslas 16/09: Weather disrupted the Welsh Counties’ Championship at Borth with the first round aborted due to inclement weather.
The scheduled second round became the only round and, as the weather forecast pedicted, the players enjoyed much improved conditions with only slight rain over the first few holes and little wind.
Flintshire with David Williams posting a 70 took the early lead and Glamorgan were playing catch-up. With Keiron Harman & Nick James posting 72’s the title quickly became a two horse race. Glamorgan suffered a set-back but Ian Flower with a 70 gave them the lead and it came down to whether Jacob Davies could significantly outscore Glamorgan’s Llew Matthews to tip the balance Flintshire’s way. Jacob managed 71, the day’s 3rd best score, but the margin over Llew wasn’t enough to overcome the Glamorgan lead.
Third place went to Brecon & Radnor – a reward for many years trying and commitment to compete with the “big boys”
The less said about the Caernarfonshire player’s ideas of “commitment” to the honour of representing their County the better.
Our thanks, as always to the Borth Club, nothing is too much trouble for them and, as always, the success of the Championship is as much due to their efforts as the organisers.
