Below you can see the full handicap index range of our Senior squad. The introduction of the SWSL has increased competition for places in both the SCL and the SWSL.
Having said that the selectors are fully aware that the new index system will take some time to even out and we are talking about fielding match players.
Poulter would not have made a Ryder Cup if the handicap index applied to their Team selection.
You can see competition is tight but your involvement and stated availability are greatly appreciated. Selection of 10 players for each match will not be easy.
I think my feeling that creating competitive golf for low handicap Seniors has been fully justified and you should thank Glamorgan Golf and Duncan Samuel for starting this ball rolling.
Do not think that the newly formed Seniors Committee are resting on their laurels, as things are still being discussed to enhance competitive Senior golf in the future.
A North Wales, South Wales match is under discussion as is a Seniors order of Merit within Glamorgan.
The Senior Committee are hopeful that you will support us with entry into events like the South Wales Seniors Open at Ashburnham (18th and 19th July 2021) and the Seniors Championship (Creigiau) (20th August 2021) and attendance on the Seniors Table at the County Dinner, complete with you free County Seniors bow tie. A matter of great honor and distinction.
Entries will be notified soon.
All in all the Senior Section is going from strength to strength and we haven’t finished yet by a long way.
I felt a huge amount of pride when first selected to play for my County and to be asked to be Senior Captain was amazing despite having to fill Duncan’s’ large shoes as best I could.
I am sure you feel this same sense of pride and hopefully you will get your chance to play for Glamorgan Seniors.
I wish you a successful, healthy and happy season and for those attending the Squad Meeting.
I look forward to seeing you at Radyr.
